Keep this category in your back pocket. It's not exciting, but it's always there when you need it.

• Ruski Tom Yum Instant Noodles ↓ Last Resort
  The Tom Yum flavor is more artificial than the real thing and the noodles are standard instant quality. That said, it’s hot and available at midnight when everything else is closed. Keep it as a backup.

You won't have the best meal of your trip here. But you'll never go hungry, and a few items are genuinely worth going out of your way for.

More often, a very specific one. You try skateboarding expecting fun. You learn English to finally connect with your international friends. You apply expecting to get the job, the acceptance, the yes… otherwise, what's the point?

So What Happens When It Doesn’t Go as Planned?

What if you speak English and people laugh? What if you fall off the skateboard and get hurt? What if you make it to your dream university and discover you don’t actually like it? What if they reject you for the job?

It feels like the end of the world. The fear of failure hits hard… you feel embarrassed, scared, lost. And all of that is completely valid, we’re human. But here’s the real danger: you might stop trying. And that, truly, is the end. That’s how most people never reach their potential, not through failure itself, but through refusing to try one more time. It’s the opposite of a growth mindset, and it’s more common than we’d like to admit.

What If the Outcome Isn’t the Point?

Now imagine this: you kept learning English despite the embarrassment, and one day a foreigner walks into your office and suddenly your skills are exactly what’s needed. Or you gave skateboarding a fair shot, it still didn’t click, so instead of quitting you try swimming and discover you’re brilliant at it. Or you don’t love the university, but you treat it as a chance to explore a new place and meet new people. Or you apply again and again, pick up a new skill in the meantime, and one day get the yes because of that exact thing you taught yourself while waiting.

Trying regardless of the result is what creates opportunities. Sometimes it means repeating the same thing until it works. Sometimes it means pivoting entirely. The hard part — and nobody talks about this enough — is knowing which one to do. So here’s a simple way to think about it: if your efforts are producing any growth, keep going. If you’ve genuinely plateaued and feel nothing pulling you forward, that’s often a signal to try something adjacent, not to quit entirely.

Maybe it’s nudging you toward something better that you haven’t discovered yet. Resilience and personal growth aren’t just outcomes of trying — they are the reward for trying, independent of the result.

أمر المؤمن كله خير

"All matters of a believer are good" — the good and the seemingly bad are, in their own way, both for your good.

Tawakkul: Trust With Action

So back to the question: “What's the guarantee?” and my honest answer: there is no guarantee. Uncertainty is scary, I know. But if you truly believe there is a hidden power taking care of you in this world, then you have no real reason to fear. This is Tawakkul توكل — complete trust in Allah. And alongside that trust, Islam asks us to keep moving, keep acting. “لا يغير الله قوما حتى يغيروا ما بأنفسهم” meaning "Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves." Faith without effort is just wishful thinking. Effort without faith is just anxiety. The two together? That's the formula.

My Story: When the Plan Fell Apart

I’ve lived this and I feel genuinely blessed that I did. I used to believe there was only one road to the life I wanted: study hard, get into a good university, land a high-paying job, save up, and eventually travel. Clean. Linear. Safe. Little did I know, Allah had written a far better path — but to reach it, that classic road had to be closed first.

Being a great student mattered deeply in my family, and honestly, I loved it. I worked hard, got good grades, made my parents proud. But what mattered most were my high school final exams, and I poured everything into them. The problem was, I had no idea what I actually wanted to do with my life. I was chasing the grade, the respectable field, the stable job, the money — the painted dream of any student.

I got a bad grade. And I was devastated. Not just disappointed — truly devastated. I felt like I had let everyone down, including myself. The world I had built in my head collapsed overnight.

What I don’t talk about enough is what came after that. The weeks of not knowing. The conversations I’d avoid because someone might ask about my results. The quiet moments of wondering if I had already peaked at eighteen. It was one of the loneliest feelings I’ve had. But I still had to choose a university — life doesn’t pause for your grief.

Lost and uncertain, I looked at what I was good at — science, math — but also art. Art, though? That’s a hobby, not a career. I pushed it aside. And yet somehow, my first choice ended up being Communication and Multimedia. Part surrender, part instinct.

I got accepted. I told myself: this is what Allah has written for me, so I’m giving it everything. And then something unexpected happened — I excelled. More than that, I loved it. I discovered my passion inside one of the subjects, a field now known as UX/UI design, and that passion has been my career as a UX designer for four years.

It’s also what has made the solo travel lifestyle I always dreamed of not just possible, but real. Right now, as I write this, I am traveling the world.

The Light at the End of The Tunnel Doesn’t Come All at Once

It was not a linear path. It was full of failures, detours, moments of self-doubt, and small wins that barely felt like wins at the time. There were semesters I questioned whether I had made the right choice. There were projects I failed. There were days I sat with the quiet fear that maybe this wasn’t working either. But the one thing I never stopped doing was trying.

I wish I could hand you the secret sauce. But there isn’t one. You try, and you figure it out as you go. We often can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel… but we keep going, switching on one small light at a time. And one day you look back and realize every wrong turn was actually pointing you somewhere.
